What this is

Cool Idle Games is a directory of idle, incremental, and clicker games, built by someone who genuinely likes the genre and got tired of finding it covered only by stale blog posts and half-abandoned forum threads.

Every game listed here gets a real page: what the game is, how its core loop and prestige system actually work, how long it takes to play through, whether it works on mobile, and where the idea came from. We would rather have a shorter list of games written up properly than a long list of one-line descriptions wrapped around an embed.

Why it exists

Idle games reward patience more than reflexes. That makes them an odd fit for most gaming coverage, which is built around graphics, competition, or spectacle. The genre's real audience finds new games through word of mouth, a Reddit thread, or a "games like X" search that too often lands on a thin listicle. This site is an attempt to be the page that search deserved to find: written by someone who actually played the game, kept current, and honest about which games are worth your time.

How the site works

  • The directory (the games index) is the main body of the site. Every entry has a written page, and every page names the developer and links to wherever they want people to go.
  • Games we host ourselves. Where a game is open source under a licence that permits it, we build it from source and serve it from our own servers. Each of those has a licence page listing the exact commit we built, the licence text reproduced in full, and anything we changed. Today that is 2048, A Dark Room, Advent Incremental, Ankyria, Anti Pac Man, Antimatter Dimensions, Asteroids, Astray, Axiom, Bean Harvester, Bitcoin Clicker, Black Hole Square, Blastar, Blaze Code Changers, Blueprint, Boss of the World, Bounce Back, Browser Clicker, BubbleBust, Bubbleverse, Calculator Evolution, Candy Box 2, Cavern Crawler, Chōshi Incremental, City Clicker, Civis, Classic Pool, Classic Snake, Clicker, Clicker Aldea, Clicker Ultimate, ClickerGame, ClickJS, Clicky Game, Clumsy Bird, Coffee Drinker, Connect Four, Cookie Clicker Brasil, Cookie Clicker Clone, Cookie Clicker IO, Cool Idle, Coop Co, DevLife, Dodeca Dragons, Doppelkopf, Drive Mad, Drug Dealing Simulator, Drunken Viking, Egg Incremental, Elematter, Elemental Incremental, Ethereal Farm, Evolve Idle, Existence Simulator, Expresso, Feed the Flames, Fifteen Puzzle, FirstIdle, Fishing Incremental, Food Clicker: Ultra Legend, Formula Clicker, Fundamental, Generator Idle, Gooboo, Grind, Hands of Fate, Happy King, HexGL, Horse Racing, I. • Games we only write about. Where we have no right to host or embed a game, there is no frame at all. The page is still written, and it links out to the place the developer wants you to play or buy it. Commercial titles sit here permanently, and so does any open-source game we have not built yet.
  • Games embedded from somewhere else. There are none. No game on this site is loaded from a distribution network or from anyone else's server, and if that changes the page for that game will say so.
  • Guides (the guides index) cover lists, comparisons, and beginner advice across the genre.

What we do not do

We do not host copies of games we were not given the right to host, we do not work around a sitelock or a framing header, and we do not put our name on somebody else's work. We do not publish scores or star ratings either: a five point scale across a catalogue this varied would be meaningless, and an aggregate rating with no ratings behind it is a fabrication. What the pages give you instead is a length figure, a mobile verdict, and an opinion in plain words, including where the opinion is that a game is not very good.

Who runs this

Cool Idle Games is operated by William Wan, based in Australia. It is a small, independent operation, not a media company.

How it is funded

The plan is display advertising, through Google AdSense, on directory and guide pages. That is not live yet, and no advertising script is loaded on any page as of the date at the top of this one. When it goes live, our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy will be updated before the first ad is served rather than after.

Nothing on this site is paywalled, and nothing here is a paid placement. No developer has paid for an entry, a position in the directory, or a favourable write-up.

Corrections and contact

Found a broken embed, a factual error, or a game you think belongs here? We want to hear about it, and a correction from the person who made the game is acted on the day it is read. See the contact page, or read the Terms of Use for the rest.
